The Newest Docent

As of yesterday, the National Cathedral has a new docent. After several months of diligent studying and visiting at the Cathedral, Dick gave his test tour and passed.

As of the 28th of January, he will be volunteering on Mondays to give tours.

On Sunday, Dick gave his guinea pig tour to Heather and me. We thought he did a splendid job. Our experienced tour guide Heather gave him some suggestions for how to engage a group of middle schoolers.

The "high" season for tours at the cathedral begins mid-March. This is when buses of tourists pull in hourly on a very tight schedule.

If you want to schedule your personal tour with Dick, I'm guessing you had better talk to him about dates in February or June.

First Snow of the New Year

Once again, Maryland has shown how unprepared it is for snow.

Last night our forecast went from "winter weather advisory" to "winter weather warning". Snow started about 8 this morning as predicted. By 1, we easily had 3 inches. Schools were already being released, and still no sign of the plows.

I am "working" at the Central library this afternoon and watching traffic crawling along Little Patuxent Parkway. There may be a half-dozen customers in the whole building. The only phone calls are "Are you open?"

For the record, it is a beautiful snow fall, and I am hoping that it does not change to rain and sleet as predicted.

I will post photos later.
